My first time I come to Mekoryuk was on December 24, 2005. The worst year ever. When I landed here, I said to myself “I know that I'm not going to like it here.”
I was talking to the agent that brought me to Debbie David’s house where my sister’s were at, even my brother. When I go there I didn’t even want to hug them. I just felt weird around them and them wanting to hug me. I just wanted to tell my dad after Christmas break that I was going back to Tununak and finish school. But he said “No, you cause can’t they don’t want you back. They said that you get into too much trouble when you was there.”
So I told him, “While I’m living here I not going to do any dishes, clean up, or anything.”
That day we all had to go to church, but I really didn’t want to go. So I think that my dad said that we all had to go. We went to church and I saw some people that I met sometime before that said hi and all that, and talked a bit. We stayed at the church and everyone that was in church went down stairs to have refreshments after church was done. I didn’t want to stay after church because I didn’t want to. When they were still down there I asked my dad, “Can I have money so that I can get a six pack of Pepsi?”
He gave me money so that I can get pop. I went to Whitman’s and Sons to get the pop. After that I went home because I didn’t want to be out.
I was with Jo Weston and trying to get to my dads house. I was just totally lost, couldn’t find my dads house. Jo didn’t even know where my dad’s house was. And she lived here her whole life. When we got there the door was locked. I went to go see my dad at Whitman’s and Sons Store and I asked him, “Can I get the house key?”
But he said, “You have to wait till I’m done getting what I want here. You kids will want some snacks tonight.”
When we went home, all I did was watch television and movies, which I still do. I barely ever went out for about a week and a half because I didn’t feel like being out and I was sick too.
When New Years Eve came around, that’s when I went out. To the school to play the games and them to the church and then we went riding.
Whenever I look back to that time, I still don’t like it here that much. Sometimes it reminds of how much I don’t want to be here and if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t have came here.
